Murunkai Keerai Kootu

Drum Stick Leaves 1.5 Bunch
Onion 1 no.
Tomato 2 nos
Moong Dal ½ cup
Grated Coconut 3 tbsp
Green Chilli 3 nos.
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
Urad Dal ½ tsp
Red Chilli 1 no.
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Lemon Juice ½ lemon
Asafoetida ¼ tsp
Turmeric powder ½ tsp
Oil As required
Salt As required





  1. Clean wash and cook the moong dal until soft
  2. Heat a wok and 2 tsp of oil
  3. Add the onion and sauté until golden brown with a pinch of salt
  4. Grind the coconut, green chillies and cumin seeds with some water to a fine paste
  5. Now add the tomatoes to the wok and stir it well
  6. Cover it and cook until it becomes soft
  7. Now add the ground gravy and mix it well, add 1 cup of water and stir
  8. Add turmeric powder and stir
  9. Now add the cooked dal
  10. Mash the dals well and stir it well
  11. Cover and cook for 5 minutes
  12. Now wash the drumstick leaves and add to the done gravy
  13. Add juice of ½ lemon
  14. Cover it and cook for 5 minutes
  15. Now to a seasoning pan add 2 tsp of coconut oil or ghee
  16. Add the mustard seeds and urad dal
  17. When the mustard seeds stars to splutter add the hing and broken red chilli
  18. Remove from flame and add it to the gravy and mix well
  19. Serve it hot and enjoy!!
