Avakkai Pickle | Avakkai Mango Urugaai

Spicy & tangy pickle made with Avvakai Mangos

Avakkai Mango 5 cups
Chilly powder 1 cup
Mustard seeds 1 cup
Fenugreek seeds ¼  cup
Garlic pods ½ cup
Gingely Oil 1.5 cup
Salt ¾   cup




  1. Cut the Mango to desired size along with the inside shells
  2. Remove the thin skin from the inside shell and clean the mangoes with a dry cloth and keep them aside
  3. In a pan in medium heat sauté separately the mustard then the fenugreek seeds each for 2 minutes
  4. Now grind the rock salt to powder and add it to a bowl
  5. Grind the roasted mustard seeds and add to the bowl
  6. Grind the roasted Fenugreek seeds and add to the bowl
  7. Mix it well
  8. Add the chilli powder to the bowl and mix it thoroughly
  9. Pickle masala is ready
  10. Take a clean bottle
  11. Add some oil and grease it by rotating
  12. Add one handful of cut and cleaned mangoes, 1 spoon of garlic and 3 spoons of masala
  13. Keep doing this until the entire mangoes, garlic, masala is out into the jar
  14. Now pour the oil and cover the bottle
  15. Give it a mild shake every day for 3 days
  16. After three days check for salt and add if required
  17. Add some more oil to the extent that the complete pickle is immersed in it
  18. Serve and enjoy
